TAPESTRIES
IN THE SCHOOL
LISBETH
MULCAHY
TWO TAPESTRY DESIGNS:
(in St. Joseph's National School, Templerainey, Arklow)
'SALUTING THE UNIVERSE'
& 'DRAiOCHT NA SPéIRE'
In form both tapestries are inspired by my previous tapestry
'Looking for the Comet'. I, myself, am beguiled by the magic
of the night sky and the sense one gets, when looking into
it, of being suspended in the Universe. This is the inspiration
for the designs.

'Saluting the Universe' is about us as part of and floating
in the Universe with the web of light suspending the Sun
and the planets.

'Draiocht na Speire' is really about the same thing - this
time looking across the hedge behind St. Joseph's, across
the plain to the distant hills and the sky above from Dawn
with the Morning Star and the daytime Moon to Day, to Dusk,
to Night and the New Moon - and above all floats the Milky
Way. It is about that feeling of magic and mystery the connection
with all of these give us.
